After Dhaka, SalamAir adds Chattogram to its route network

Oman based low-cost carrier SalamAir has announced Chattogram as its 23rd destination. The route connecting the port city of Bangladesh and Oman's port capital Muscat will be inaugurated on Monday.

The new link will operate four times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday departing Muscat at 13:55 local time and arriving in Chattogram at 20:45 local time. The flight will depart Chattogram at 21:30 local time arriving in Muscat at 00:35 local time.

Earlier on August 28, 2018, the airline started its flights to Dhaka and runs four weekly flights.

More than seven lakh Bangladeshis are currently working in Oman. "The Muscat-Chattogram route always witnesses fair rush," said Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport Manager Wing Commander Sarwar-e Zaman hoping the new service will facilitate the expatriates.

At present, US Bangla, Regent Airways and Bangladeshi flag-carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines operate their flights in Chattogram-Muscat route. It seems SalamAir has taken their business competitive seriously as the airline's CEO Captain Mohammad Ahmed will run the maiden flight connecting the two port cities.

"This is the first incident in the airlines history that any CEO will run the inaugural flight for promotion and to gain trust of the clients," said SalamAir's Bangladesh Manager Istiaq Hefez.

Meantime, Shah Amanat International Airport Manager Wing Commander Zaman said, "We have taken necessary preparations so that the new carrier can operate the flights smoothly."

Chattogram-Muscat is a four-hour journey. The maiden V-404 flight, which will be ran by the CEO, will have 180 seats.

"We offer comparatively cheaper rates. And it is a good news for the port city people as a huge number expatriates of the district are living in Oman," said SalamAir's Bangladesh Manager Istiaq.

The budget airline began its journey in January, 2017, with five Airbus 320 aircrafts and extended its network so far to 22 destinations including Muscat, Salalah, Suhar, Dubai, Doha, Jeddah, Karachi, Multan and Dhaka.

The Chattogram route is the airline's sixth destination in the subcontinent, which includes Dhaka, Kathmandu, Karachi, Multan and Sialkot.
