Power returns to parts of Dhaka after 2-hour outage
PGCB officials say electricity distribution companies will gradually restore power to all affected areas

Several areas of the capital, including Gulshan, Banani and Banasree, experienced a power outage lasting over two hours due to a technical fault at the Rampura grid substation.
Citing the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB), several television channels reported that the fault was repaired and power supply began returning to the affected areas in phases around 12:15am.
The PGCB also stated that electricity distribution companies will gradually restore power to all affected areas.
Residents in Gulshan, Banani, Badda, Banasree Malibagh, Mouchak, Moghbazar, Badda, Hatirjheel, Karwan Bazar, Farmgate, Rajabazar, Indira Road, and Green Road, as well as some spots in Dhanmondi, experienced an unexpected power outage starting at 9:45pm last night (22 June).
Md Jahurul Islam, member (production) of the Bangladesh Power Development Board, told The Business Standard that a technical fault at a Rampura grid substation at 9:45pm triggered a chain reaction, causing several other substations to trip as well.
"This occurred due to a chain effect," he explained.
Mohammed Faizul Kabir, chief engineer (additional charge) of PGCB, also said they are working to restore electricity in the affected areas by rerouting power from nearby substations.
