Those who incited mob to detain ex-CEC Huda will face action: Govt
Physically assaulting an accused person is illegal, violates the rule of law, and constitutes a criminal offense, says the statement
Legal action will be taken against the individuals who created a mob to detain former chief election commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda, the interim government said on Sunday (22 June).
In a statement posted in the Chief Adviser GOB page on Facebook late at night, the government said Huda was arrested by Uttara police in connection with a specific case. "However, the government expressed concern over the chaotic situation created by the mob during the arrest and the reported physical assault on the accused."
The government also urged citizens not to take the law into their own hands.

The government emphasised that all accused individuals will be tried according to the country's legal process, and the final decision rests with the courts.
"Physically assaulting an accused person is illegal, violates the rule of law, and constitutes a criminal offense," the statement said.
Law enforcement agencies have been instructed to identify those responsible for inciting unrest and take appropriate action.
The government also called on all citizens to uphold patience and civility in the pursuit of justice.
Former chief election commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda was held by an angry mob in the capital's Uttara area last evening.
A video of his detention went viral on social media, where he was seen surrounded by a group of people, with a garland made of shoes hanging around his neck.
Earlier in the day, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) filed a case against chief election commissioners and officials involved in the 10th, 11th, and 12th parliamentary elections, accusing them of inaction and misconduct during those polls.
The 11th national election was held under CEC KM Nurul Huda in December 2018.
