No compromise on justice for Hadi's killing: Nahid
Failure to arrest Hadi’s killers would be recorded in history as one of the interim government’s major failures, he says.
There will be "no compromise whatsoever" regarding justice for the killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam said today (6 February).
In a Facebook post, Nahid wrote, "A shameful attack was carried out by police on a peaceful programme of Inqilab Mancha, which was demanding an investigation and trial under the United Nations into the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi."
"Several leaders and activists of the platform were injured in the incident," he said, adding that they strongly condemned and protested the attack.
Nahid, also the Jamaat-led 11-party alliance candidate for the Dhaka-11 constituency, further wrote, "Members of the law enforcement agencies showed extreme unprofessionalism in dealing with the peaceful programme and demanded action against those involved."
He also urged the government to accept all legitimate demands of Inqilab Mancha.
Alongside the Facebook post, Nahid shared a video of his speech at an election rally in Savar under the Dhaka-19 constituency.
In the video, Nahid said, "We will not concede even an inch when it comes to justice for Sharif Osman Hadi. Since last night, we have seen that Hadi's family has been staging a sit-in in front of Jamuna, seeking justice."
Addressing the interim government, he said failure to ensure justice and arrest the killers of Sharif Osman Hadi would be recorded in history as one of its major failures. "There is still time," he added.
He also urged the interim government to ensure that no disrespect is shown to Hadi's family and to take effective steps to secure justice.
