Activists of Inqilab Mancha in Chattogram blocked a road in protest against police attacks on demonstrators who were demanding justice for Sharif Osman Hadi in Dhaka.
From about 6pm today (6 February), protesters held the blockade at the No 2 Gate area of the city for nearly two hours.
Several hundred students joined the protest after calls from Inqilab Mancha's Chattogram University and city branches.
The blockade halted all vehicle movement in the area and caused heavy traffic congestion.
Protesters raised slogans and demanded that the killing of Sharif Osman Hadi be investigated under the supervision of the United Nations.
They also condemned the police for using force against fellow activists who were staging a march in Dhaka earlier in the day.
Demonstrators called for the speedy identification and exemplary trial of those responsible for the murder of Hadi.
Earlier in Dhaka this afternoon, leaders and activists of Inqilab Mancha clashed with police as they attempted to march towards the residence of the chief adviser, State Guest House, Jamuna, demanding justice for the killing of their spokesperson.
Police blocked the march near Hotel InterContinental Dhaka and used batons, sound grenades, water cannon and tear gas to disperse the protesters.
Several people, including Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber, were injured in the clash and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Following the afternoon confrontation, activists marched from the Dhaka University campus to the Shahbagh intersection and blocked the road there, causing severe congestion.
Sharif Osman Hadi was shot in Dhaka in December 2025 and later died in Singapore while undergoing treatment, sparking nationwide protests and an ongoing demand for an independent investigation.
