Yunus urges swift implementation of Women's Affairs Reform Commission proposals

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has instructed the ministries and divisions concerned to promptly implement the recommendations of the Commission on Reforms for Women's Issues, aiming to eliminate discrimination against women.

The directive came after he formally received the commission's report at the State Guest House Jamuna today (19 April).

"Let the actionable recommendations be implemented through us without delay. Let's set a global example. Women around the world are watching. They will evaluate and draw inspiration from this," said Yunus.

The chief adviser also said, "This is not merely a women's issue, rather it is a matter of national significance. The report will be printed and distributed widely. It will be published in book form, like a textbook. It cannot just be shelved as a document; it should be accessible to everyone."

Yunus also mentioned that the recommendations will be shared with political parties through the National Consensus Commission.

Speaking on the occasion, Commission Chair Shireen Parveen Huq said, "We wanted to honour those who lost their lives in July by creating something that serves society and brings positive change." 

The recommendations are grouped into three categories: those implementable by the current government, those for the next elected government, and a section outlining the aspirations of the women's movement, she said.

The commission has made recommendations across 15 key areas, she added.
