Police filed a case today (19 April) against the driver, the helper and the owner of the speeding bus that crashed with three other vehicles, tore its roof off during the impacts, and went on for another 10km at high speed without the roof in Munshiganj's Srinagar upazila on Thursday night (17 April).

Ataur Rahman, a police official from Hasara Highway Police Station, filed the case as plaintiff following the Road Transport Act 2018, confirmed Abdul Quader Zilani, officer-in-charge of the police station.

"The bus has been seized. Police are trying to identify and detain the accused. We are also investigating if the bus had fitness," the OC said.

Meanwhile, four of the five injured people have returned to their homes, while critically injured Md Shahin from Jhalakathi district is receiving treatment at a hospital in the capital, police said.

"Shahin is currently out of danger," OC Zilani added.

Speeding bus crashes with 3 vehicles on Mawa highway, 8 injured

Earlier on Thursday (17 April), a horrific accident occurred on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Samashpur area of Munshiganj's Srinagar upazila when a bus of Barishal Express Limited collided first with a microbus, then with a covered van and finally with a container truck.

The force of the accident's impact tore the roof of the bus completely off.

At least eight passengers were injured in the series of crashes, and instead of stopping, the bus driver continued driving the roofless vehicle for around 10 kilometres.
