Hanif Paribahan owner acquitted in ACC case
According to the case statement, Hanif Mia had acquired assets worth Tk17,536,707 allegedly beyond known sources of income

Hanif Mia, the owner of Hanif Paribahan, has been acquitted in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over failure to submit a wealth statement.
The verdict was delivered today (7 July) by Judge Md Rabiul Alam of Dhaka's Special Judge Court No- 4.
Hanif Mia was present in court during the announcement of the verdict.
Confirming Hanif's acquittal, his lawyer Advocate Borhan Uddin said that both Hanif Mia and his legal team expressed satisfaction with the court's decision.
According to the case statement, Hanif Mia had acquired immovable assets worth Tk30,356,163 and movable assets worth Tk1,802,209, totaling Tk40,436,372. Of this, assets worth Tk17,536,707 were allegedly acquired beyond known sources of income.
Under Section 26(1) of the ACC Act 2004, the ACC issued a notice on 29 November 2020, asking him to submit a wealth statement. The notice was served on 9 December 2020.
However, Hanif failed to respond within the stipulated time. As a result, on 4 April 2021, Deputy Director of ACC Abu Bakar Siddique filed a case at the ACC's Integrated District Office-1.
Later, on 19 February 2023, ACC Deputy Director Mohammad Ibrahim submitted the charge sheet against Hanif Mia.
The court then framed charges and proceeded with the trial. During the trial, the court recorded testimony from seven witnesses.
Notably, Hanif Mia had also been convicted and sentenced to death in the 2004 grenade attack on an Awami League rally in Dhaka, which killed 24 people and injured around 300, including then opposition leader Sheikh Hasina.
He was convicted in absentia, but the High Court later overturned the verdict and acquitted all accused in that case.
