In March of this year, former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was arrested on an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court. Suddenly, a group of people online began to rally in his favor. Shortly after, the Philippines held midterm elections—where local and parliamentary members were to be elected. In those elections, some candidates close to Duterte were challenging candidates loyal to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. But according to experts, many of those active online for Duterte were actually "fake"—that is, not real people.
