11 Injured in multi-vehicle collision at Dhaka-Mawa expressway toll plaza

At least 11 people, including two children and a woman, were injured in a five-vehicle collision at the Khan Bari area adjacent to the Mawa toll plaza of the Padma Bridge on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway today (11 July).

Confirming the incident, Srinagar Fire Station Officer Dewan Azad Hossain told The Business Standard that damaged vehicles were removed from the scene with assistance from Highway Police, allowing traffic to return to normal on the expressway.

"The injuries sustained by the victims were not life-threatening," he added.
Hasara Highway Police Station Officer-In-Charge (OC) Abdul Kader Jilani said, "The involved vehicles have been seized and legal action is underway."
Eyewitnesses reported that three passenger buses, a private car, and another vehicle were involved in the crash. Two motorcyclists narrowly escaped the incident, which was captured in detail by nearby CCTV cameras.

According to the police and fire service officials, a high-speed bus of Imad Paribahan travelling from Zajira in Shariatpur to Dhaka lost control and rear-ended a Gosairhat Express bus in front of it.

The impact caused a chain reaction, resulting in collisions with another passenger bus of Elish Paribahan and two additional vehicles, including a car.
The fire service and Highway Police quickly arrived at the scene and began rescue operations. The injured were promptly taken to nearby healthcare facilities. The accident disrupted traffic on the highway for over 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, the driver and helper of the Imad Paribahan bus responsible for the crash fled the scene immediately after the incident.
