A horrific accident occurred on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in the Samashpur area of Munshiganj's Srinagar upazila last night (17 April) when a bus of Barishal Express Limited collided first with a microbus, then with a covered van and finally with a container truck.

What happened:

  • The force of the impacts tore the bus's roof completely off.
  • At least eight passengers were injured in the series of crashes.
  • Instead of stopping, the bus driver continued driving the roofless vehicle for approximately 10 kilometres.

  • Injured passengers cried out for help, eventually alerting locals in Kumarbhog in Louhajang upazila, who stopped the bus.

  • The injured passengers received first aid.
  • One critically injured individual named Shahin was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for further treatment, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Padma Bridge North Police Station, Md Zakir Hossain.
