Koica to provide $13m to foster AI experts in Bangladesh
Bangladesh and South Korea have signed the Record of Discussion (RoD) and Terms of Reference (ToR).
The Bangladesh government today (25 August) signed an agreement with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica) to launch a $13 million project aimed at fostering artificial intelligence (AI) experts in Bangladesh.
Masuma Akter, additional secretary at the Economic Relations Division (ERD), and Jihoon Kim, country director of Koica, signed the Record of Discussion (RoD) and Terms of Reference (ToR) on behalf of their respective sides, according to an ERD press release.
The project, titled "Fostering Innovative Technology Experts with a Focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Bangladesh", will be implemented by the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division between 2026 and 2029.

It aims to build a strong foundation of AI knowledge among local technology professionals to meet the demands of the rapidly evolving global IT industry. The initiative will foster innovation by strengthening collaboration between industry and academia, enabling professionals to apply advanced technologies to solve real-world problems.
Additionally, the project will promote the use of AI solutions to address local challenges and contribute to the country's sustainable economic growth. It is also expected to enhance job opportunities for Bangladeshi IT professionals both at home and abroad, including in South Korea, through advanced technical training.
ERD Secretary Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky and ICT Division Secretary Md Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan attended the signing ceremony alongside other senior officials.
