BUFT hosts a fusion of tradition and contemporary fashion

BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) hosted a groundbreaking fashion exhibition, "Sculpted Elegance," where students of the Bachelor of Fashion Studies (BFS), Batch 222, showcased an innovative blend of Bangladesh's traditional textiles with contemporary and sustainable fashion.
Held from March 10–11, the exhibition featured Jamdani, tribal fabrics, handloom textiles, and Gamcha, seamlessly integrated with modern themes like punk-inspired silhouettes, experimental draping, and tech-infused designs. The Gamcha-punk fusion was highlighted, transforming rustic handwoven fabric into bold, avant-garde statements. Students also utilised cyano dye, eco-friendly materials, and zero-waste techniques, reinforcing their commitment to sustainability.
Beyond aesthetics, the collection addressed social themes such as mental health, addiction, body positivity, and environmental consciousness. Designs inspired by vitiligo and emotional distress challenged beauty norms, while asymmetrical cuts and layered textures symbolised anxiety and resilience. The showcase received high praise from faculty for its fusion of heritage and innovation, pushing the boundaries of fashion as both an art form and a medium for social change. BUFT students reaffirmed that tradition can be reimagined into forward-thinking, sustainable fashion narratives.
