10 lakh families to get proteins at reduced rates during Ramadan
The initiative is expected not only to ease the burden on low-income families but also to help stabilise market prices during Ramadan.
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku has announced that the government will provide protein-rich food items at subsidised prices to approximately 10 lakh low-income families across the country during the holy month of Ramadan.
Milk, eggs, meat, and fish would be provided at affordable rates under the initiative, said the state minister, speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a special Ramadan sales programme at the Livestock Research Institute in Mohakhali this morning (19 February).
He stated that the programme has been undertaken in line with the government's commitment to public welfare under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. The initiative is expected not only to ease the burden on low-income families but also to help stabilise market prices during Ramadan.
The state minister emphasised that fulfilling the prime minister's commitments to the nation requires sincerity, dedication, and coordinated teamwork. "Only through collective efforts can we move the country forward on the path of development and prosperity," he said.
He noted that during Ramadan, some unscrupulous traders tend to raise commodity prices, increasing hardship for lower-income groups. The government's intervention, he said, will play a supportive role in alleviating their suffering. There are also plans to expand the programme further in the future.
In addition, he announced that the government plans to introduce Family Cards, Agriculture Cards, and Health Cards as part of its election pledges to better serve the public.
