No sound bites, will prove through action: Muktadir on Ramadan market, prices
He attributed price hikes at the beginning of Ramadan to a one-time surge in demand, as consumers often purchase for the entire month at once, temporarily increasing pressure on retail markets.
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has assured the public that the government has adequate stocks of essential commodities to maintain market stability during Ramadan.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat today (18 February), the minister said sufficient daily necessities are available both in stock and in the supply pipeline to keep prices stable throughout the holy month and beyond.
"We have enough essential goods in hand and in the pipeline to ensure market stability during Ramadan and afterwards. There is no reason for concern," he said in response to a question.
Asked about the recurring issue of alleged market "syndicates" during Ramadan, he said, "I will not give you sound bites. Inshallah, I will demonstrate through action."
The minister also indicated that the government will take effective measures to strengthen market monitoring and ensure smooth supply management in the coming weeks.
