Transport workers, police clash during Ctg union election; OC among 4 cops injured

Four police personnel, including the officer-in-charge of Halishahar Police Station, were injured in a clash with transport workers during an election of the Chattogram Inter-District Road Transport Workers' Union today (25 August).
The clash broke out around 3:30pm during voting at Dulhan Community Centre in Halishahar's Eidgah area.
Following the clash, workers blocked roads at Kadamtali and Alankar, halting traffic and disrupting bus services to Dhaka and other destinations.

According to police, voting had been underway since morning when several workers raised objections to the way the polling centre was being managed. An argument later broke out between two groups of workers over delays in voting and allegations of vote rigging.
Police tried to separate the two groups, but the situation reportedly escalated into a chase and counter-chase between the workers and police.
At one point, workers hurled bricks and stones at police, after which officers fired tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.
Chattogram Inter-District Bus Owners' Association Secretary Monowar Hossain said several members of their observer team were also injured in the clash.
"The chase and counter-chase started after workers threw bricks and stones and police responded by firing tear gas shells," he said.
Halishahar Police Station OC Kazi Muhammad Sultan Ahsan said he and three other police personnel were injured in the clash and were receiving treatment at Dampara Police Hospital.
