A Rohingya youth was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at Camp No 10 in Kutupalong, Cox's Bazar.

The victim, Md Jashim, 25, was gunned down by 15-20 masked men on Tuesday night (25 October). The incident occurred in the camp's F-16 block.

Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, Armed Police Battalion (APBn) Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police Faruq Ahmed, said,  "Why the masked miscreants killed him is still unknown."

Faruq, quoting locals and the deceased's relatives, said that Jashim went to sleep after finishing dinner like any other day yesterday night.

At one point a group of 15-20 miscreants broke into his house and took him away to a nearby ally.

"He was shot thrice in the chest. He died on the spot.  We rushed to the spot after being informed.

"But the miscreants managed to flee. We are still not sure who and what caused the murder," Farud said.

The body of the deceased has been sent to the Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

"Efforts are underway to catch the culprits," he added.
