Actor Zaher Alvi's wife Ikra found dead in Mirpur residence
Authorities were preparing to conduct an autopsy, but the family has requested that the body be handed over without one.
The body of Afra Ibnat Ikra, wife of actor Zaher Alvi, was recovered from a flat in the capital's Mirpur DOHS this noon (28 February).
Confirming the matter, Pallabi Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Humayun Ahmed said, "Relatives found Ikra hanging in her residence and initially took her to Kurmitola General Hospital, from where the police later retrieved her body around 1:30pm."
Quoting Alvi's assistant, Orko Hossain, who brought the body to the hospital, the SI said, "Orko visited the flat around noon. Despite repeated knocking, Ikra did not respond. Fearing something was wrong, they forced entry and discovered her hanging from a fan with a rope. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead."
He added, "Preparations are underway to send the body for autopsy, although the deceased's family has requested to take the body without it, creating procedural complications."
According to the SI, actor Zaher Alvi is currently in Nepal for Eid drama shooting.
Meanwhile, in a social media post, Alvi confirmed his wife's death, describing the news as devastating and saying he has been unable to speak properly since learning of it.
He urged well-wishers and journalists to respect the family's privacy and refrain from spreading misinformation, particularly for the sake of their eight-year-old son. He added that he was attempting to return to Dhaka as soon as possible.
However, the post was later deleted.
Alvi and Ikra got married in 2010.
