How AI became an expert second pair of eyes during brain tumour surgery
A 48-year-old father from Bedfordshire, England, has undergone what was described as the world's first live AI-assisted brain surgery to remove a pituitary tumour. Surgeons at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery used a bespoke AI system to analyse live surgical video, track instruments and highlight hidden blood vessels and nerves.The landmark operation was a complete success, with Rhys Hibbert reporting improved vision, restored energy, and the disappearance of his previous symptoms.
