Actor Zaher Alvi granted bail in wife's suicide case
The High Court granted bail to the actor, who was accused in a case filed over the death of his wife Afra Ivnat Ikra.
The High Court has granted bail to actor Zaher Alvi, also known as Md Niamat Ullah Bhuiyan, in a case filed over the suicide of his wife, Afra Ivnat Ikra.
A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher delivered the bail order yesterday (2 August).
Alvi's lawyer Zainul Abedin confirmed the order today (3 August), saying there is no legal bar to his release from jail following the bail granted by the court.

Earlier, Alvi surrendered before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin on 18 June and sought bail, but his plea was rejected.
Later, on 24 June, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Albiruni Mir placed him on a two-day remand after the investigation officer sought seven days of remand on 21 June.
After completion of the remand period, a Dhaka court sent Alvi to jail on 30 June.
Police produced him before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka, where the investigation officer sought his continued detention until the investigation was completed.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junayed then ordered that he be sent to jail.
According to the case statement, Afra was found hanging at their residence in the capital's Mirpur DOHS area on 28 February. She was taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The following day, her father Kabir Hayat Khan filed a case with Pallabi Police Station, alleging that Afra had been driven to suicide due to prolonged domestic disputes and mental torture.
Alvi and Afra got married in 2010 and have a son.
