DIU hands over teaching apprentice fellowship certificates

Daffodil International University (DIU) has distributed certificates among the participants of 'Teaching Apprentice Fellowship' program on 10 February 10.

The university's Human Resource Development Institute launched the one year 'Teaching Apprentice Fellowship (TAF)' program last year with the aim of creating skilled and trained teachers for the 21stcentury, read a press release.

Through this fellowship program, the fresh graduates would get the opportunity to develop themselves as a teacher or researchers.

Professor Dr SM Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, vice-chancellor (acting) of DIU, was present as the chief guest at the program and distributed certificates among the successful participants.

The program was also attended by Professor Dr Mostafa Kamal, dean, Academic Affairs and convener of the TAF program; Prof Ahmed Ismail Mostafa, dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences; Professor Dr Engineer AKM Fazlul Haque, registrar; Professor Dr A M M Hamidur Rahman, dean; Professor Dr Farhan Helal Mehtab, associate dean of Faculty of Humanities and Social Science; Professor Dr Masum Iqbal, dean, Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship; Ejaj-Ur- Rahman, deputy director, HRDI of DIU.

Some 22 participants out of 43 have already joined as the teaching assistant and research associate in the university.

While addressing as the chief guest, Prof Dr SM Mahabub Ul Haque Majumder said the demand for excellence in higher education is a major concern today. Knowledgeable and competent faculty members are one of the key components.

For Daffodil International University at its massive growth stage, it is absolutely critical to improve the quality of education to establish and retain its position as one of the best universities in Bangladesh, he added.

He also said, most of the teachers are hired given their academic records only. But if graduates with excellent academic background coupled with proper teaching and 21st century leadership skills then the graduating students would be mentored and coached to be a global leader.

That's why DIU management has decided to recruit and train knowledgeable, wise, hardworking and tech-savvy teachers in advance to face the upcoming challenges through TAF program, he added.

Teaching Apprentice Fellowship (TAF) is a full time in job leadership development program. The TAF program is an intensive and cohesive, one-year program that supports early-career, university teachers in their efforts to develop teaching expertise and lead from the classroom.

The main objectives of this program is to create a sustainable, valid and reliable source of loyal teachers, to maximize and ease the opportunity for the graduates to be a teacher and to train candidates to be a leader with 21st century leadership skills and qualities.
