Election situation won't be bad, political parties showing restraint so far: Press secretary
He said that since the announcement of the election schedule, four people have been killed so far, compared to 115 deaths during the 2014 national election
Political parties have so far demonstrated a tolerant and respectful attitude toward one another, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said today (29 January).
"The election situation this year will not be bad. Political parties are respectful toward each other and have shown sufficient tolerance so far," he said while speaking at a press briefing in the Foreign Service Academy, Dhaka, following the Advisory Council's meeting.
Responding to a question, the press secretary noted that the current electoral atmosphere is better than at any time in the past.
He said that since the announcement of the election schedule, four people have been killed so far, compared to 115 deaths during the 2014 national election.
Regarding the killing of a Jamaat leader in Sherpur, Shafiqul Alam described the incident as an isolated one.
"We are making strong efforts to identify those responsible. The real perpetrators will not go unpunished," he said.
