8 more tax, VAT officials suspended over defying transfer orders
The move comes days after protest programmes by NBR officials under the banner of the “NBR Reform Unity Council”.

The interim government has temporarily suspended eight more officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) at different offices in Dhaka over defying their transfer orders by reportedly ripping them apart.
The move comes days after protest programmes by NBR officials under the banner of the "NBR Reform Unity Council".
The NBR issued separate orders on Tuesday and Wednesday regarding the matters.
The suspended officials are – Md Zillur Rahman, deputy director, central intelligence cell of NBR, Lokman Hossain, tax inspector at Dhaka Tax Zone-2; Nazmul Hasan and Abdullah Al Mamun, tax inspectors at Income Tax Intelligence and Investigation Unit; Saleha Khatun Sathi, assistant revenue officer at Customs Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka West; Roushnara Akhter, assistant revenue officer at Customs Bond Commissionerate, Dhaka North; Salek Khan, sepoy at Customs Excise and VA Commissionerate, Dhaka South; and BM Sabuj, chief assistant (warden), Dhaka Tax Zone-14.
In total, 26 officials have now been suspended, while the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched investigations into 16 others.
Previously, five senior officials, including four members of the NBR, were compelled to retire. The commissioner of Chattogram Custom House also faced suspension.
The protest by NBR officials began after the government issued an ordinance on 12 May dissolving the NBR and the Internal Resources Division, replacing them with the Revenue Policy Division and the Revenue Management Division.
NBR officials allege that the ordinance was a strategic move to shift the authority of the revenue department under the control of the administration cadre.
