Tax return submission deadline extended for 4th time, new last date 31 Mar
Even though the deadline has been extended three times, tax return submissions this year have not matched last year’s total, prompting the NBR to once again extend the deadline.
The deadline for individual taxpayers to submit their income tax returns has been extended by another month for the fourth time, pushing the new last date to 31 March.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) announced the decision in an order today (26 February).
Earlier, the deadline had been extended three times by one month each, with the previous extension set to expire on 28 February.
Under normal rules, 30 November is the final date for individual taxpayers to file their returns.
However, even though the deadline has been extended three times, tax return submissions this year have not matched last year's total, prompting the NBR to once again extend the deadline.
According to NBR data, slightly over 42 lakh tax returns were submitted as of 25 February. In comparison, around 45 lakh returns were filed during the same period last year.
Last year, the deadline was extended twice.
