Govt determined to ensure 100% coverage of e-GP: Planning Adviser
The present government is committed to ensuring 100% coverage of electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) in public procurement nationwide.
On May 14, 2025, Professor Wahiduddin Mahmud, Adviser to the Ministry of Planning, expressed this view while presiding over the second Board of Directors of the Bangladesh Public Procurement Authority (BPPA) meeting as its chair. The second meeting was held at the BPPA conference room on the Ministry of Planning campus.
Md. Kamal Uddin, secretary of the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) and Vice-Chairperson of the Board, was present at the meeting. Other nominated members of the 10-member Board, headed by the Planning Adviser, were also present.

Mirza Ashfaqur Rahman, Member-Secretary of the Board and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BPPA, informed the meeting that, in terms of value, 65 per cent of the country's total public procurement is currently conducted through the e-GP system.
The Adviser reiterated the government's plan to increase this to 100 per cent and asked the CEO of BPPA to direct activities and resources toward achieving this goal.
As part of digitising public procurement, BPPA, formerly CPTU under IMED, the Ministry of Planning, introduced e-GP in 2011. The entire cycle—from procurement planning and processing to contract management—is now conducted through e-GP, which has been praised as a comprehensive online system.
Approximately 75 per cent of the Annual Development Programme (ADP) allocation and 40 per cent of the national budget are spent annually on public procurement of goods, works, and services, which is equivalent to approximately $30 billion.
The first meeting of the 10-member BPPA Board was held on December 7, 2023, following the establishment of the Authority on September 18, 2023.
Several decisions were made during the second meeting regarding the development of BPPA's own office in the city, the formation of a budget committee for the Board, the organogram, amendments to the PPR 2008, and other miscellaneous matters.
As of May 14 2025, 1,30,814 tenderers have registered with the e-GP system.
