Five people, including three women, were killed in a tragic road accident involving a covered van and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Bhairab, Kishoreganj. 

The incident occurred around 9:30am today (16 December) on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in the Jagannathpur area.  

According to police and locals, the accident happened when a covered van attempted to overtake another van, leaving a CNG auto-rickshaw caught between them.

The rear van struck the auto-rickshaw, which was then crushed under the front van. 

All four passengers of the auto-rickshaw and its driver died on the spot.  

Bhairab Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shaheen said, "Efforts are underway to identify the victims. Both drivers of the covered vans fled the scene immediately after the accident and are yet to be apprehended."  

The victims' bodies have been sent for identification and necessary procedures. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
