Road crash on Dhaka-Sylhet highway claims 4 more lives
Just 15 days ago, nine people were killed in a bus collision in the same area.
Four people, including three members of the same family, were killed when a three-wheeler collided head-on with an oil-laden truck in Osmaninagar on the Sylhet-Dhaka highway today (22 August).
The accident occurred around 2:30pm in the Brahmangram area, leaving four others injured, police said.
The deceased were Niamat Ali, his wife and daughter, all from Shriramasi village in Jagannathpur, and three-wheeler driver Lalon Mia.
According to police, the auto-rickshaw was travelling from Sherpur towards Sylhet when it collided head-on with an oil tanker coming from the opposite direction.
The auto-rickshaw was badly damaged in the crash. Locals rescued the driver and seven passengers in critical condition and took them to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared four of them dead.
Osmaninagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Mostofa said five to six people were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Four of them later died, he added.
On 7 August, nine people were killed in a collision between buses operated by Unique Paribahan and Bengal Paribahan in Osmaninagar.
