Moinuddin Mohammed Rahgir, chief financial officer of bKash, told The Business Standard that the company's long-term investment in innovation and infrastructure has driven sustainable growth.
"Over a decade-long strategic investment in disruptive technology, service infrastructure, digital payment ecosystem, and digital literacy contributed to bKash's steady revenue growth in recent years," Rahgir said.
"Our commitment to patient capital and a growth-oriented mindset has fostered a sustainable business model, driving behavioural shifts and increasing trust in digital financial services that enabled millions of customers to access necessary services from the comfort of home," he added.
He further said the company's continued expansion of services, including integration with banking platforms, bill payments, and other value-added offerings, has strengthened both bKash's performance and the broader digital financial ecosystem.
Founded in 2010 as a joint venture between BRAC Bank and US-based Money in Motion LLC, bKash began commercial operations in 2011. It remained profitable until 2018 before facing significant losses between 2019 and 2021.
The company returned to profit in the July-September quarter of 2022 and has maintained consistent profitability since then, according to officials.
BRAC Bank currently holds a 51% stake in bKash, while other major shareholders include Money in Motion LLC (16.45%), Alipay Singapore E-Commerce (14.87%), International Finance Corporation (10.36%), and SVF II BEAM (DE) LLC (7.32%).
