Criticising opponents brings no benefit to people: Tarique
Earlier, addressing an election rally in Pallabi’s Ward No 2 under Dhaka-16 constituency, Tarique announced plans to establish a hospital to improve healthcare services for local residents
Criticising rival political parties does not bring any benefit to the people, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman said today (8 February), stressing that citizens want to know what political parties plan to do to rebuild the country and improve people's lives.
"People want to know what BNP or other parties want to do for nation-building and what plans they have to change people's fortunes," he said while speaking at a rally at Adarsha High School in Mirpur-10 under Dhaka-15 constituency.
Tarique said people have regained their right to vote and will elect their preferred representatives on 12 February.
"This election should not be just about voting. The 12 February election must be an election for rebuilding the country and changing people's lives," he added.
Referring to women making up half of the country's population, he said if BNP comes to power, it will work to make women economically self-reliant.
As part of this plan, BNP intends to distribute "family cards" to housewives across the country, through which they will receive government support to help working families gradually become self-sufficient.
Highlighting the importance of agriculture, the BNP chairman said, "If farmers do well, Bangladesh will do well."
He announced plans to introduce "farmer cards" for farmers nationwide. If BNP forms the government, it will also waive agricultural loans of up to Tk10,000 for farmers.
Earlier, addressing an election rally in Pallabi's Ward No 2 under Dhaka-16 constituency, Tarique Rahman announced plans to establish a hospital to improve healthcare services for local residents.
He said unemployment remains a major challenge in the country and pledged that BNP, if elected, would establish vocational institutes and training centres in every district as well as in Dhaka city to help unemployed youth create their own employment opportunities.
Special training programmes will also be arranged for IT professionals and freelancers, he added.
Referring to overseas employment, Tarique noted that more than one crore Bangladeshis work abroad and many are forced to sell land or property to finance migration.
BNP has decided to provide easy-term loans for those wishing to work overseas so that they do not have to sell their assets, he said.
On water management, he pledged that canal excavation programmes would be undertaken across the country if BNP comes to power, with priority given to excavating canals in Dhaka to address the city's waterlogging problem.
He also said BNP would give the highest priority to ensuring public safety and restoring law and order across Dhaka and the rest of the country. At the same time, the party would adopt a zero-tolerance policy against corruption.
"Without controlling corruption, no plan will work and people's fortunes will not change," he said.
