Mr Md Ataur Rahman joins Bank Asia as Independent Director

Mr Md Ataur Rahman, ndc, has recently joined Bank Asia PLC as an Independent Director.
A veteran of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration Cadre), Mr Rahman began his government career in 1983 and retired in 2014 as Secretary to the Government. Over his three-decade-long tenure, he held key administrative and policy-making positions across several ministries and public sector institutions. He served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, the Economic Relations Division, and the Energy and Mineral Resources Division.
Mr Rahman also served as Director General of the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) and as Chairman of the Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation. In addition, he chaired multiple state-owned enterprises, including three listed companies—Atlas Bangladesh Limited, Eastern Cables Limited, and National Tubes Limited—and three fully government-owned entities: Chittagong Dry Dock Limited, Pragati Industries Limited, and Jalalabad Gas Transmission and Distribution System Limited.
He holds a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Rajshahi and an M.Phil. from the Bangladesh University of Professionals. He has also attended numerous local and international training programmes and seminars, reinforcing his commitment to leadership and continuous learning.
Mr Rahman's appointment brings valuable governance experience and strategic insight to Bank Asia as it continues to strengthen its leadership in the financial sector.
