LafargeHolcim and CUET hosts National Concrete Festival

A two-day National Concrete Festival held at the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), spotlighting innovation and sustainability in the country's construction sector. The event was organised by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) CUET Student Chapter, providing an interactive platform for budding engineers to bridge academic knowledge with real-world applications.
LafargeHolcim Bangladesh PLC, a leading building materials company, partnered with CUET to support the initiative—reinforcing its commitment to cultivating a culture of sustainable construction among the next generation of professionals.
The festival featured a range of competitive segments, including Truss Making, Mortar Workability, Sustainable Concrete Solutions, and a Photography Contest—each designed to challenge participants' technical skills, creativity and teamwork. A separate technical seminar added an academic dimension to the event, with Fakhruddin Md Khan, Head of Technical Services at LafargeHolcim Bangladesh, delivering the keynote.
In his address, Fakhruddin highlighted the company's Net Zero ambition, emphasising the need to reduce CO₂ emissions through innovative construction practices. "Sustainability is no longer optional—it is an imperative for the future of construction," he noted.
CUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan, in his closing remarks, underscored the critical importance of sustainable engineering in the context of Bangladesh. He called on students to drive innovation and showcase their potential on global platforms.
Six teams and three individuals were honoured with awards for outstanding performance. The award ceremony was attended by Professor Dr Aysha Akter, Head of CUET's Civil Engineering Department; Professor Dr G M Sadiqul Islam, Faculty Advisor of ACI CUET Student Chapter; Former CUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Jahangir Alam; and Fakhruddin Md Khan of LafargeHolcim Bangladesh.
Organisers said the festival not only celebrated technical ingenuity but also reflected the shared vision of CUET and LafargeHolcim Bangladesh—to foster a low-carbon, innovation-driven future in the construction industry.
