Cabinet approves 9th pay scale for govt employees
A government-formed committee has recommended raising the basic salaries of government employees from grades 1 to 20 by up to 100%, with implementation in two phases
The cabinet has approved the proposed ninth pay scale for government employees, who are likely to get a boost in their basic salaries.
The weekly cabinet meeting, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the chair, began at the Secretariat around 5:30pm, according to a press release issued by the Prime Minister's Office.
A press briefing on the decisions taken at the meeting is scheduled for 7pm in the Press Information Department conference room.
According to people familiar with the new pay scale, a government-formed committee recommended raising the basic salaries of government employees from grades 1 to 20 by up to 100%, with implementation in two phases.
Under the proposal, basic salaries could be increased in the first year, followed by house rent and other allowances in the second year.
