Govt employees may get up to 100% basic pay hike under proposed 9th pay scale
Revised salaries could take effect before allowances under new structure
Government employees across grades 1 to 20 could see their basic salaries rise by up to 100% under the proposed ninth pay scale, with the revised structure set to be implemented in two phases.
The final review committee has signed off on its report on the pay commission's recommendations, according to an e-book published today (17 August) by the Prime Minister's Office to mark the government's first 180 days.
Under the proposed structure, revised basic salaries would be implemented in the first year, while house rent and other allowances would come into effect a year later.
The proposed FY2027 budget has allocated Tk89,836 crore for government employees' salaries and allowances. Total spending on salaries, pensions and gratuities has been estimated at Tk1,41,434 crore.
The 9th National Pay Commission, formed in July 2025, had recommended a 100% to 140% increase in salaries and allowances while retaining the existing 20 grades.
It proposed raising the minimum basic salary from Tk8,250 to Tk20,000 and the maximum from Tk78,000 to Tk1,60,000.
A 10-member committee headed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani was formed in April to review the pay commission's recommendations.
The final report has now been signed by all members of the committee, according to the Prime Minister's Office publication.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury had earlier announced that the new pay structure would be implemented from 1 July.
