FBS from University of Dhaka wins sixth straight CFA Institute Research Challenge

CFA Society Bangladesh announced that a team from the Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka, has won the CFA Institute Research Challenge 2024-25 Local Final.

The winning team now advances to the Subregional round, where they will compete virtually against universities from other South Asian countries. The final of this globally prestigious competition was held at the Sheraton Hotel, Banani, Dhaka, on February 27, 2025. A team from Bangladesh University of Professionals secured the first-runner-up position, while a team from North South University became the second-runner-up.

City Group proudly sponsored this year's competition, reaffirming its commitment to fostering excellence in financial education and equity research.

The panel of esteemed judges for the local final included Mr Shahidul Islam, CFA, Mr Mohammad Golam Mostofa, Mr Asif Khan, CFA, and Mr Kazi Raquib-Ul Huq, CFA. All judges were present when the winners were announced after the final presentations. The Champion, 1st Runner-up, and 2nd Runner-up teams will receive a combined total of BDT 5,00,000 as prize money for the local stage of the competition.

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global equity research competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. More than 5,000 students from 900 universities across 91 countries participate in this annual prestigious event.
The Bangladesh local competition began on December 21, 2024, with 89 teams comprising 332 participants from 20 universities and institutes nationwide. After rigorous evaluation, the top 10 teams were selected for the equity research report round, and based on their performance, the top five teams advanced to the local final.

The winning team conducted an in-depth analysis of Berger Paints Bangladesh Ltd. and presented their buy/sell/hold recommendations. Their presentation at the local final culminated months of research, interviews with company management, competitors, and clients, and extensive presentation training.

The students from the winning team will now represent Bangladesh in the subregional round in March 2025. There, they will compete against top student teams from across South Asia, showcasing their analytical expertise, financial acumen, and presentation skills.
