The vehicle carrying BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's coffin departed Evercare Hospital this morning (31 December) at 8:54 am, heading towards Gulshan home.
Earlier, at 8:34am, her coffin, draped in the national flag of Bangladesh, was placed in the hearse. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was present at the hospital at the time.
She will be laid to eternal rest beside Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman's grave in the city following her namaz-e-janaza in the afternoon today (31 December).
The namaz-e-janaza will be held across the Manik Mia Avenue in the city after Zohr prayers around 2pm.
Instead of the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad, the coffin will be kept at the western end of Manik Mia Avenue while the janaza will be held across the inner ground of the Jatiya Sangsad, its outer premises, and the entire stretch of Manik Mia Avenue, said the Chief Adviser's Press Wing last night (30 December).
Meanwhile, tight security was enforced around Evercare Hospital and its vicinity as the vehicle was moved out. Members of the Armed Special Force (ASF), President Guard Regiment (PGR), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), police, and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) bolstered security arrangements. The hospital's main gate was also cordoned off with barbed wire barricades.
