Khaleda Zia's death: CA Yunus announces 3-day state mourning, general holiday tomorrow

Chief Adviser of the interim government Muhammad Yunus addressed the nation at noon today (30 December) following the death of former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, expressing condolences and calling for unity.
In his televised address, Yunus also announced three days of state mourning, as well as a one-day general holiday on the day of Khaleda's funeral.
Yunus said the nation was "silenced by deep grief and sorrow" at the passing of Khaleda Zia, describing her as a leading figure in Bangladesh's democratic politics.
"With her death, the nation has lost a great guardian," he said, offering condolences to her family, political colleagues, and supporters on behalf of the nation and praying for strength to overcome the loss.
"Khaleda Zia was a most glorious personality in the politics of Bangladesh. Her extraordinary role in the struggle to establish democracy, multi-party political culture, and the rights of the people will remain untarnished in history.
"Her uncompromising leadership against autocracy and fascism repeatedly showed the nation the way to transition from undemocratic situations and provided the inspiration for liberation," he said.
Yunus said the nation would remember her long political career, people-oriented leadership, and role in upholding Bangladesh's independence and sovereignty, adding that the loss of such a leader had created a void.
Calling for unity, he said, "At this mournful moment…let us remain united during this difficult time for the nation. I urge everyone to remain vigilant so that no one can attempt to create instability or sabotage during this time of grief. It is extremely urgent for all of us to play a responsible role at this time."
He also appealed for discipline during funeral and mourning observances.
The chief adviser announced three days of state mourning following Khaleda Zia's death, as well as a one-day general holiday on the day of her namaz-e-janaza.
He concluded by urging citizens to show patience and cooperate with authorities in completing the funeral rites and related formalities.
