Daffodil group pledges one-third of net profit for public welfare from 2026
On 2 January 2026, the final day of the National Mourning observance, more than 6,500 members of the Daffodil Family gathered during their annual Family Day to pay tribute to Begum Khaleda Zia, former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and to pray for the eternal peace of her soul.
On the same occasion, Daffodil Group announced a landmark social commitment, declaring that from 2026 onwards, one-third of the group's net profit will be dedicated to the welfare of the people of Bangladesh. The initiative was described as a rare and exemplary milestone of responsible, humane corporate leadership in the country's corporate history.
The Family Day programme was held at Daffodil Smart City in Savar, attended by senior leadership from various concerns of the group, alongside more than 6,500 employees. The commitment was formalised through an official agreement, signalling that the group's future direction will extend beyond business growth to prioritise national development and public welfare as a core mission.
On the occasion, the group also honoured long-serving employees for their contributions. Seventy-nine employees with more than 20 years of service, and 13 employees with over 30 years of service, received special recognition. Daffodil Group stated it firmly believes dedicated employees are the foundation of sustainable institutional success.
Speaking at the event, Dr Sabur Khan, Chairman of Daffodil Group, stated, "From 2026, one-third of the net profit of all Daffodil Group concerns will be dedicated to public welfare." He emphasised that the initiative goes beyond conventional corporate social responsibility, calling it a long-term commitment to nation-building. "This is not just a donation; it is a nation-building investment," he said.
Referring to Bangladesh's limited resources and large population, Dr Muhammad Sabur Khan underscored the importance of ethical and compassionate corporate leadership, noting that without humanity, society risks becoming unsafe for all.
It was also announced that the district-based development model implemented by the Daffodil Foundation since 2000 will be expanded nationwide from 2026. Through this expansion, the group reaffirmed its commitment to working with talented and potential youth from every corner of the country.
During the programme, Daffodil Group outlined the vision behind its one-third social commitment, clarifying that the initiative is not a conventional act of charity but a long-term plan for social responsibility and national development. The fund will support sustained investment in education and scholarships, youth leadership, job creation, healthcare, social protection, and innovation.
Dr Mohammad Nuruzzaman, Chief Executive Officer of Daffodil Group, stated that allocating one-third of the group's net profit would not affect salaries, benefits, or allowances of employees at any level.
The group stated that the initiative would allow employees to take pride in knowing their work directly contributes to national welfare, positioning Daffodil Group not only as a corporate entity but as a partner in national development.
Through this announcement, Daffodil Group stated it aims to demonstrate that institutional success becomes meaningful only when growth creates a positive impact on people's lives, marking another step towards a humane, sustainable, and values-driven future.
