IUB re-elects Didar a Husain as board chairman
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has announced the re-election of Didar A Husain, a founding trustee of the university, as Chairman of the IUB Board of Trustees for the 2026–27 term. He previously served as Chairman during 2024–25.
Husain joined the War of Liberation while studying at the University of Dhaka and was commissioned as an officer in the first war course of the Bangladesh Army on 9 October 1971, when he was posted to 10 East Bengal. The Liberation War Museum records his and his colleagues' gallantry at Belonia.
After leaving the army as a Major in 1981, he entered the textile sector and later served as Vice-President of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association during 2005–06. He is currently Chairman of Rahim Textile Mills Limited, and Managing Director and Chairman of joint venture companies PCS Bangladesh Private Limited and Cannon Pest Management Bangladesh Private Limited, respectively. He is also a member of the National Council of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh.
The Education, Science, Technology and Cultural Development Trust, the founding trust of IUB, announced the formation of the Board for the 2026–27 term on 23 December 2025.
Other members of the Board include A K Ashraf Uddin Ahmed, Dr Husne Ara Ali, A Matin Chowdhury, Rashed Chowdhury, Ismail Dobash, Javed Hosein, Mirza Salman Ispahani, Altamash Kabir, Aminur Reza Khan, Mohammad Zakaria Khan, Yasmine Z Mahmud, Wajid Ali Khan Panni, Saifur Rahman, Towhid Samad, Abdul Hai Sarker, and Altaf Hossain Sarker.
