British Council brings young learner english hub to Uttara

The British Council has opened a new Young Learner English Centre at International Hope School Bangladesh (IHSB), Uttara campus, expanding its English language teaching network.
The IHSB Uttara campus hosted the launch ceremony on Saturday. This event marked the first-ever partnership between the British Council and a Bangladeshi school, establishing a new hub for English learning among children and teenagers in northern Dhaka.
Nazmun Nahar, Head of the Primary Section at IHSB, said the new centre will become a vibrant platform where young learners actively enhance their English proficiency in an engaging and supportive environment.
Emphasising the school's commitment to holistic education, Principal Roksana Zarin said, 'Proficiency in English is essential for academic success and future opportunities. The centre will offer a structured, internationally recognised curriculum to enhance communication skills and global competitiveness.
Timothy Donald Fisher, Chairman of Stirling Education—the parent organisation of IHSB—highlighted the strategic partnership with the British Council, saying that 'the collaboration will bring world-class teaching standards and globally recognised certifications to students, further strengthening the school's reputation as a forward-thinking institution'.
Stephen Forbes, Country Director of British Council Bangladesh, said, 'Today marks the beginning of a new partnership rooted in a shared belief—that strong English skills open doors to opportunity, confidence and a world of connections. Together, we aim to give young learners the tools they need to succeed globally'.
The centre serves children and teenagers aged 7–17 and complements the British Council's existing Fuller Road centre. Cambridge-qualified teachers lead the courses, foster creativity and communication, and provide parents with regular progress updates.
For over 90 years, the British Council has fostered global connections and understanding through education and culture.
