Bangladesh Embassy in Rome observes Independence and National Day

The Bangladesh Embassy in Rome solemnly commemorated the Great Independence and National Day 2025 with due respect and formality.
The day's programme began with Ambassador Rakibul Haque hoisting the national flag to the tune of the national anthem.
At the outset, a moment of silence was observed in memory of the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War and those who lost their lives in the mass uprising of students, workers, and the public in 2024. Messages from the Honourable President, Honourable Chief Adviser, and Honourable Adviser for Foreign Affairs were then read out. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also screened a special documentary on the day's significance.
A discussion session was held on the background and significance of the Independence and National Day. Speakers highlighted the history of Bangladesh's struggle for freedom, the sacrifices made by the nation, the spirit of the Liberation War, and the heroism of countless martyrs and mothers and sisters who endured immense suffering. The session also underscored the critical role of expatriates in building a prosperous Bangladesh, with the embassy reaffirming its commitment to providing the highest level of service and welfare support to the diaspora.
In his remarks, Ambassador Rakibul Haque emphasised the true meaning of independence, calling for collective efforts to build a happy, prosperous and inclusive Bangladesh free from discrimination. He sought everyone's cooperation in implementing the initiatives of the interim government led by Honourable Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. He further underscored the significant contribution of non-resident Bangladeshis to the country's economic development. He urged all to align with the current government's policies in supporting expatriates' welfare. Embassy officials were reminded to carry out their duties with utmost responsibility.
