Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, will be celebrated across Bangladesh tomorrow (Monday) as the Shawwal moon was sighted this evening (30 March).
The National Moon Sighting Committee made the confirmation following Maghrib prayers.
The main jamaat of Eid-ul-Fitr will be held at 8.30am at the National Eidgah in the capital.
Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus is set to offer Eid prayers at the National Eidgah grounds at 8:30am on Monday (31 March). He will later exchange Eid greetings with dignitaries at his office in Tejgaon, according to Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
Five Eid jamaats (congregations) will be held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The first Eid jamaat will be held at 7am. The second will take place at 8am, while the third one at 9am and the fourth one at 10am. The last Eid jamaat will be held at 10:45am
Meanwhile, several villages in Chandpur, Faridpur, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Chattogram, Jhenaidah, and Bhola celebrated Eid on Sunday, aligning with Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries.
Television channels and radio stations will air special programmes marking the occasion.
Besides, special meals will be served at hospitals, jails, government children's homes (Chotomoni Nibash), centres for persons with disabilities, shelter homes, orphanages and vagrant and destitute welfare centres.
Earlier last week, DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali assured that there was no security threat in Dhaka during Eid.
"The residents of Dhaka remained safe throughout Ramadan, and police effectively controlled petty crimes," he said after inspecting security arrangements at the National Eidgah, where the main Eid congregation will take place.
Besides, he said 15,000 police personnel will be deployed to ensure the safety of the people in Dhaka.
