The incident occurred on the night of 31 December, when lawyer Naim Kibria, 35, was beaten to death in the Bashundhara Residential Area
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested one person in connection with the murder case filed over the killing of a lawyer in Dhaka's Bashundhara Residential Area.
The arrestee has been identified as Zobayer, 22, who was arrested around 8pm on Sunday (4 January) from the capital's Baridhara area, said Imamul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Vatara Police Station.
He told The Business Standard that several suspects were identified by reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
"Among those involved, one of the key suspects has been arrested by RAB from Baridhara and handed over to police. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accused," he said.
Asked about the motive behind the killing, the OC said preliminary interrogation revealed that the incident stemmed from a minor altercation following a collision involving a motorcycle.
"Initially, we have learned that the murder occurred over a trivial issue related to a motorcycle accident. We are continuing the interrogation to determine whether there were any other motives," he added.
The incident occurred on the night of 31 December, when lawyer Naim Kibria, 35, was beaten to death in the Bashundhara Residential Area.
Naim, a resident of Pabna Sadar upazila, was the son of Golam Kibria and worked as a lawyer at the Pabna District and Sessions Judge's Court.
According to police and family members, Naim was driving a car through the Bashundhara area around 10pm when it collided with a motorcycle.
Following the collision, the motorcycle rider and a group of unidentified youths reportedly dragged him out of his car and assaulted him severely.
Upon receiving the news, Naim's cousin Rakibul Islam rushed to the spot and took him to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police later recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The victim's father, Golam Kibria, filed a murder case against unidentified individuals with Vatara Police Station.
