Man arrested for allegedly raping 8-year-old in Ctg
Police have arrested a man for the alleged rape of an eight-year-old girl in Anwara upazila of Chattogram district.
The incident reportedly occured between 8:30am and 9am yesterday (1 June) in Ward 5 of Chatri union of the upazila.
The arrested, Arman Hossain, 25, is a resident of a rented house in the area and had been working as a decorator.
Confirming the arrest, Anwara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Junayet Chowdhury told The Business Standard, "This is a heinous and shameful incident. Legal procedures are underway. The accused will be produced before the court after completion of necessary formalities."
"The child will also be sent to One-stop Crisis Center for medical examination tomorrow morning," he added.
The girl's mother filed a written complaint at Anwara Police Station as the complainant.
According to the complaint and local accounts, the victim was playing outside her house with other children around 8am. She returned home crying around 9am. When her mother asked what happened, the child said that her neighbour Arman Hossain had forcibly dragged her to a nearby vacant room, locked the door, and raped her.
The complaint further stated that the girl's playmate, her cousin, heard her cries and repeatedly knocked on the door. Arman eventually opened the door, allowing the girl to come out.
Upon hearing the child's account and seeing her condition, the mother immediately informed family members and neighbours. Locals rushed to the spot and detained Arman Hossain. During initial questioning, he reportedly confessed to the crime.
Police, informed by locals, reached the scene and took the accused into custody.
