Ad-din Foundation executive director steps down voluntarily following newborn deaths
The foundation expressed deep sorrow over the recent deaths of six newborns.
Dr Sheikh Mohiuddin, executive director of Ad-din Foundation, has voluntarily stepped down from his position, with the organisation's Board of Directors assigning its responsibilities to Professor Jamalunnesa, PhD.
The development was announced in a press release issued today (16 June) by Tarikul Islam Mukul, director of company affairs at Ad-din Foundation.
In the statement, the foundation expressed deep sorrow over the recent deaths of six newborns at Ad-din Women's Medical College Hospital in Moghbazar, Dhaka.
"We, along with the rest of the country, are deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident involving child deaths at Ad-din Medical College Hospital," the press release said.
It added that disciplinary measures had already been taken against staff members accused of negligence following a preliminary investigation.
The foundation also said it had launched initiatives to strengthen monitoring systems and reassess existing healthcare protocols.
"In line with the directives of the Government of Bangladesh, we are firmly committed to bringing changes to our infrastructure and management," the statement said.
According to the release, infrastructure upgrades are already underway, including improvements to ventilation and oxygen circulation under the supervision of three independent consultants.
The bakery located above the foundation's corporate office has also been permanently closed.
Professor Jamalunnesa recently retired voluntarily after more than 25 years of teaching at the Department of Microbiology at the University of Dhaka. She graduated top of her class in 1988 and later earned a PhD from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
Founded in 1980, the non-profit Ad-din Foundation provides healthcare, medical education, general education, training, and livelihood support for underprivileged communities.
The foundation currently operates nine hospitals, five medical colleges, one nursing college, four nursing institutes, one Institute of Health Technology, one collegiate school, and several mobile healthcare services across the country.
According to the foundation, Ad-din Women's Medical College Hospital in Moghbazar has treated more than 15.7 million patients over the past 29 years. As of 11 June 2026, around 2,000 outpatients were receiving treatment at the hospital daily.
The hospital employs 1,790 doctors, nurses, and staff members, most of whom are women. Its medical college currently has 646 students, including 209 international students.
The foundation said more than 2,000 doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, and students rely on the institution for their education and professional futures.
