1 prosecutor resigns from ICT, 2 new prosecutors appointed
Both have been appointed as prosecutors with the rank of deputy attorney general.
A prosecutor of the reconstituted International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), Saimum Reza Talukdar, has resigned from his position.
The Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs issued a notification today (9 March) accepting his resignation.
On the same day, the ministry also issued a separate gazette appointing two new prosecutors to the tribunal. The newly appointed prosecutors are Marzina Raihan (Madina) and Mohammad Jahiru Amin.
Both have been appointed as prosecutors with the rank of deputy attorney general.
Speaking to the media, Saimum Reza Talukdar said he had applied for resignation several days earlier.
"My last working day was Sunday. I mainly took this decision to return to my previous profession. There is no other reason," he said.
Talukdar joined the reconstituted tribunal as a prosecutor with the rank of assistant attorney general on 8 October 2024 following the fall of the government amid the July Uprising.
During his tenure, he handled several cases related to crimes against humanity committed during the July Uprising in various parts of the country, including Rampura, Lakshmipur, and Mymensingh.
Before joining the tribunal, the lawyer served as a senior lecturer at BRAC University.
