Naser Ezaz steps downs from StanChart Bangladesh CEO role
"I am stepping down as CEO but will continue as an employee of the bank," Naser told TBS.
Naser Ezaz Bijoy has stepped down from the position of the chief executive officer (CEO) of Standard Chartered Bangladesh. He has informed the Bangladesh Bank that he no longer intends to continue in this role.
Confirming the matter, Bitopi Das Chowdhury, head of the bank's corporate affairs, brand and marketing, told The Business Standard, "He [Naser] intends to hand over the role of CEO. An interim CEO will take over, subject to Bangladesh Bank's approval."
"We have recently notified the Bangladesh Bank. However, it has not yet been accepted. Until BB approves it, this remains subject to regulatory approval. If the approval is granted, he will hand over his responsibilities as the CEO," she added.
Talking to TBS, Naser also said, "I am stepping down as CEO but will continue as an employee of the bank."
He said the bank's business growth has slowed as the overall economy is slowing down. "In this context, we need a new strategy. My tenure will end in November, and I do not plan to renew.
"So, I think the next CEO should take care of the new business strategy. In this context, I have stepped down as CEO."
As the CEO, Naser has led Standard Chartered Bangladesh for more than seven years since November 2017.
Before he was made CEO, he was the head of Global Banking, according to the bank.
Naser has been with Standard Chartered for more than 31 years and has held several roles in Corporate Banking, Risk and Audit in Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
Under his leadership, Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh has reported a net profit of Tk3,300 crore for the year 2024, which was not only the highest-ever annual profit for the bank but also the largest in the history of the country's banking sector.
