Health minister will have to provide proof: Ad-din Foundation chief on bribery allegation
The hospital authorities will file an appeal tomorrow (16 June) against the government's decision to cancel the hospital's licence.
Dr Sheikh Mohiuddin, executive director of Ad-din Foundation, has said that since Health Minister Sardar Sakhawat Husain Bakul said Ad-din Medical College Hospital authorities followed him with "crores of taka", the minister will have to provide proof and substantiate that allegation.
"Why would I follow a minister with money? If the minister has made such a statement, he will have to prove it," Dr Mohiuddin said while responding to questions from journalists at a press conference held at the hospital in Dhaka's Moghbazar today (15 June).
His remarks came in response to a statement made by the health minister on Saturday, in which he alleged that Ad-din authorities had followed him around with crores of taka and tried to influence him before he decided to cancel the licence of the hospital's Moghbazar branch.
"I was not tempted by money. The prime minister told me, 'Whatever decision you take, you will have my full support'. I cancelled the licence," he added.
Addressing the allegation, Dr Mohiuddin said the burden of proof for this statement lies with the minister.
He also said Ad-din would file an appeal tomorrow (16 June) against the government's decision to cancel the hospital's licence.
On 11 June, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revoked the licence of the hospital's Moghbazar branch following an investigation into the deaths of six newborns at its neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) on 27 May.
