Ex-Ctg edu board secy suspended over son’s HSC result forgery
A senior secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division confirmed the suspension under the Government Service Act

The Ministry of Education has formally suspended Professor Narayan Chandra Nath, former secretary of the Chattogram Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, over his involvement in the manipulation of his son's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) results.
A circular issued Monday (7 July), signed by Siddiq Zobair, senior secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, confirmed the suspension under the Government Service Act, following Narayan's June 17 surrender before a court and subsequent denial of bail.
Narayan's son, Nakshatra Debnath, sat for the 2023 HSC exam from Chattogram Cantonment Public School and College.
Allegations were made that Narayan used his administrative influence to change his son's grades, ensuring a GPA-5. The manipulated results were published on 26 November 2023.
An internal investigation by the education ministry found evidence of forgery, prompting Narayan's removal from the board in July 2024 and reassignment to the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) in Chattogram.
In September, he was made Officer on Special Duty (OSD), and the forged results were officially annulled.
On January 21 this year, AKM Shamsuddin Azad, current secretary of the board, filed a criminal case at Panchlaish Police Station. Narayan, his son, former board system analyst Kibria Masud Khan, and former board chairman Professor Mustafa Kamrul Akhtar were named as accused.
The First Information Report (FIR) alleges that the four conspired to change Nakshatra's results before their official release. All three officials held influential positions at that time.
Narayan, who joined the Chattogram Education Board in 2019 and held roles including Controller of Examinations and Acting Chairman, is currently in jail.
He will receive subsistence allowance during the suspension period as per regulations.
