2 Brahmanbaria cops suspended for taking bribe to release cannabis-laden pickup
Officer-in-Charge of Nabinagar Police Station Rafiqul Islam said the two officers were suspended for activities contrary to police discipline.
Two police officers in Brahmanbaria were suspended yesterday (9 January) over allegations of taking bribes.
The suspended officers are Sub-Inspector Zahid Ahsan and Constable Abu Kawsar of Nabinagar Police Station.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge of Nabinagar Police Station Rafiqul Islam said the two officers were suspended for activities contrary to police discipline.
According to police and local sources, the two officers, while on patrol, intercepted a pickup van loaded with cannabis at Kanabari intersection in Nabinagar upazila in the early hours of 5 January. The officers allegedly released the vehicle after accepting a large sum of money as bribe.
Following reports of the incident, a preliminary investigation was conducted, which found evidence supporting the allegations. Based on the findings, Sub-Inspector Zahid and Constable Kawsar were suspended.
"Further disciplinary action will be taken against them following a departmental investigation," Rafiqul said.
