Police have handed over Riaz Uddin Raju, the alleged boyfriend of Tajmin, who was detained in Cox's Bazar over her murder, to Cumilla police for further investigation.
A team of Cumilla police arrived at Cox's Bazar Sadar Police Station around noon today (12 October) and left for Cumilla with Raju, said Sheikh Mohammad Ali, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Raju was detained around 9pm yesterday (11 October) from the Kalatali area of Cox's Bazar's hotel-motel zone.
Mohammad Ahidur Rahman, spokesperson for Cox's Bazar District Police and additional superintendent of police (Crime and Operations), said Raju was detained on suspicion of involvement in Tajmin's murder.
According to the police official, Raju admitted that he had lured Tajmin to Cox's Bazar. He is the victim's alleged boyfriend.
Before his detention, Raju also spoke to several media outlets about his relationship with Tajmin.
He said they had developed a relationship through Instagram. Tajmin arrived in Cox's Bazar early on 6 September, and the two checked into a residential hotel in the Kalatali area that day, posing as husband and wife, he said.
The following afternoon, Tajmin left for Cumilla alone by bus. She was later murdered after reaching the district.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her murder and Raju's alleged involvement.
